OBJECTIVE:

How Can You Give A Presentation Without An Objective? You're right! You can't!

Many candidates find that they are not asked about their most important assets. Planning your presentation will help in obtaining an offer. A planned presentation will assist you in knowing what you want to express to the interviewer. During the interview you will be able to keep a mental checklist of the points as you address them. When your presentation is planned, you will find that you will pack a greater punch with your responses and cover more of the sizzle.

The first step in planning for the interview is understanding your objective in the interview. Your objective is quite simple: A. Get an offer or B. Get another interview. That’s it! During the interview it is your only time to convince the manager that you are the right person for the job. Once an offer is made, then it is time to decide if the company and the job are right for you, with your Executech personnel consultant.

Planning for the interview will make 100% difference in the result! Take a few moments to anticipate what skill sets and experience that the interviewer will be assessing you on. Then make a list of examples that demonstrate your past successes in these areas. It will be your job to express these examples during the interview, and you can count on the interviewer to make his own assumption if you don’t. Plan a short list of questions regarding the company, growth, product or service, new technologies or advances, and future direction to demonstrate your interest in the position and your planning skills.

THE GOAL QUESTION:

What Is Your Career Goal? Long Term? Short Term?

This is perhaps the most commonly asked interview question. This is where a great many candidates become selected or eliminated. So preparation here is a must!

The first step is to recognize what the interviewer is looking for. Most likely it is to confirm your long term interest in performing the duties of the position in question, and to see if your goals are in line with advancing with the company or if you are simply looking for a stepping stone.

Most managers want the comfort of having the right person in the job for an appropriate period. Also, the person that wants to advance within the company, in due time, will normally put forth more effort than most.

Common ways of answering the goal question improperly may be expressing to much of a desire for advancement or having a non related goal, such as, a personal business endeavor not related to the company’s industry, or a goal which may elude to the fact that you are not going to be around very long. The best way to answer the goal question is simply in terms of the position which you are interviewing for and your desire to do a good job!

PREPARING FOR THE INTERVIEW:

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!

Time, Date, Day of the week and Location: Imagine showing up for an interview on the wrong day or the wrong time or at the wrong place. Not only would that be embarrassing but it may cost you the job! Confirming the time and date is of the utmost importance. Double check the appointment by confirming the time and day of the week.

Also, know the location of the interview. If you are unsure of the area take a drive to the facility so that you will be familiar with the roads and the time that it may take to get there. Be sure to add the appropriate time to compensate for rush hour traffic.

Also, if the office is located in an office building make sure that you get the appropriate floor, suite and tower number. Sometimes an interview may be held at a site away from the employers place of business. Be sure to confirm all of the above items with your Executech personnel consultant prior to your interview.

Practice: Going through a practice interview will help tremendously, you can do it with your Executech personnel consultant, a family member or friend. Practice your presentation a number of times so that you will be able to speak smoothly during the interview. Practicing with a mirror and a tape recorder several times will help you practice your presentation. Your effort in planning, preparation, practice, and research will help you succeed in your next interview performance. Then, your standing ovation will be in the form of a great offer.

THREE POINTS TO CONVERY:

The Big Three

Okay, you are the manager and you need to hire a new person, would you want to hire the person who might like the job, a person who is interested in the job, or a person who really wants the job? After interviewing 3-6 candidates, the interviewer will compare each of the candidates’ desire for the position. The interviewer will either assess or assume your level of desire for the job.

For the best consideration, leave nothing to chance, let the interviewer know how you feel about the job.

When you make those three points you will certainly be a finalist. Your Executech Personnel Consultant is the key to unlock the door to your future. BODY LANGUAGE:

Body Language Speaks Even When You Don't

Surprising as it may seem, your body movements will express quite a bit about you to the well trained interviewer.

Some examples for good and bad body language are:

What if they offer me the job on the spot? Although this situation rarely occurs, it is wise to be prepared for it, especially after you knock the socks off your interviewer! When a company offers a job on the spot it may not necessarily indicate a ‘red flag’ as many candidates may suspect. The manager may be just so thrilled with you that he is convinced that you are the right person for the job.

There are two ways that you can handle an offer on the spot:

These offer handling methods will achieve far better results than trying to negotiate single handedly, in a one on one situation, and you won’t be starting off with your new manager with a tough negotiation over the offer. Always contact your Executech personnel consultant immediately after the interview, so that he can get to work right away on any salary negotiation or inquiries of the company that you may have. If you are experienced or if you are entry level, we can help you achieve your career goals.
